Swim, fish or boat (electric motors only) in the fresh, clear waters of 56-acre Mountain Lake. Canoe and kayak rentals are available There are 16 miles of hiking trails to use and if you want do a little bike riding you can use the newly upgraded Glacial Ridge Bike Trail from Starbuck, MN to Glacial Lakes State Park. The park has great camping and swimming and six camper cabins for rent - four have electricity.

Stargazing
Rainbow

Glacial Lakes Astronomers and Stargazers Society (GLASS) will host a series of stargazing events at the park this summer.

Starting in April and running untill September these events will be scheduled for the 3rd Saturday of each month. Beginning at dusk and ending a few hours later. All interested people are to meet in the horse camp area

Starting in May and running untill September this event is on going in all of Minnesota's State Parks. Ask your park manager for more informaion.

 
Camping

Glacial Lakes Start Park has a large variety of camping experiences which are described and illustrated on our camping page.

 
Fishing

Fishing in the park is free and you do not need a state fishing licence to fish

Mountain Lake has a wide variety of fish. Walleye, Northern, and pan fish are stocked

Kettle Lake has pan fish.

Baby Lake has Walleye and pan fish.

 
Horseback Riding

Glacial Lakes State Park has over 14 miles of horse trails to ride and sightsee. The park is planning to add several more miles of trail in the near future.

 
Bird Watching

Bird watching is a year round enjoyment at Glacial Lakes State Park. A great variety of birds can be found here from the lowly sparrow to the might bald eagle.

Learn How To Fish And Camp

The park will have - two new summer classes to teach the basic techniques of camping and fishing.

Friday, June 25th - "I Can Fish", learn some basic tricks of fishing and camping.

Saturday and Sunday, July 17-18 - "I Can Camp"

 
Cycling

Cycling is encouraged in the park. Starbuck has a upgreaded biking and hiking trail to the park and is hard surfaced. The distance from the park to the city of Starbuck is 5 miles. Bike rentals are avalible in Starbuck and Glenwood

Hiking

Hiking has always been a part of the park system and Glacial Lakes has over 16 miles of hiking trails to use for short or long hikes.

 
Nature Interpetive Programs

2010 will the park will share a naturalist with Lake Carlos State Park. They will be presenting a number of programs and the various geographic and fawna of the park

Canoe and Kayaking

Canoe and Kayaks are available for rent at the park. Canoes have an electric motor that can be used if desired.

 
Swimming

Glacial Lakes State Park has an excellent sandy beach that can be enjoyed by young and old alike. The water is clear and clean and of lake itch


I Can Fish

, learn some basic tricks of fishing and camping. All of the supplies, right down to the rod and reel for fishing and marshmallows for smores, will be provided by the park. This first class will teach children the proper techniques of fishing. This class will teach children, ages 15 and under, the basics of fishing safety as well as how to properly cast a line. The last hour of the class will be meant for fishing and children will have an opportunity to catch some fish. All of the equipment will be provided, including fishing poles and bait will be provided by the park, and the children will not need a fishing license to fish at the park.

I Can Camp

This two day class will be limited to the first 20 children who register. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

This two day clinic will teach some basic skills of camping in the outdoors and will feature everything from cooking over an open fires to paddling a 14 person canoe around Mountain Lake. This two-day clinic is a great way for people who may have children who want to go camping, but don't have the equipment or knowledge to feel comfortable while in the great outdoors. Among some of the activities include learning how to set up a tent, techniques for cooking over an open fire, wildlife watching, geocaching, and nature walks. All of the equipment, including a tent, cook stoves, and air mattresses, will be provided by the park. Guests will only be required to bring a sleeping bag. The cost for the camp is $55 for up to six people. To register for the camp contact the state park at 239-2860. The class will be limited to the first 20 children who register. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
